How to find missing gaps in your content (to rank higher)
SEO tip: Rank higher for your most important pages by covering more subtopics. Here’s how:
Sometimes you’re not ranking as well as you should be for a certain keyword because of topic gaps in your content.
You can fix this with better content optimization. More specifically, find those missing topics to cover so you can go head-to-head with the top three results.
Ahrefs’ AI Content Grader makes this process easy by automatically analyzing the top-ranking pages and pointing out where you’re lacking.
Step 1. Open the AI Content Grader in Ahrefs and plug in an existing article and the target keyword.
Step 2. Look at the analysis to see how well (or how bad) you’ve covered all the subtopics.
Here’s an example for the keyword “programmatic SEO”, comparing one of Ahrefs’ articles with its rivals. You can see a clear picture what needs to be improved.
Step 3. Review the suggestions that show you how to cover the subtopics.
They pull real examples from the current top-ranking content.
The AI Content Grader also shows you suggestions on how to best cover the subtopic, word-for-word, by providing a real-life example from a top-ranking page.
Make those changes, republish the article, and you’ll likely see your rankings go up. Rinse and repeat for all of your highest-priority articles for the biggest traffic gains.
