36% of our leads in the last 30 days came from AI search

36% of our leads in the last 30 days came from AI search.

That’s up from 27% in the previous 30 days.

Here’s what we’re doing in SEO and GEO to make it happen:

Disclaimer: if you’re reading this post hoping for revolutionary GEO hacks, you ain’t getting any. Why? We aren’t doing anything revolutionary. We are just executing on the fundamentals consistently. That’s about 95% of SEO and GEO.

Sure, there are some secret sauces of how it’s done, but the overarching approach and tactics are not a secret…good content, good links, good brand building, etc etc.

Everybody knows what needs to be done, not everyone is able to execute it.

1. We rank organically for core keywords that our customers search on Google. And thus, LLMs pull us into prompt responses too.

2. We take up multiple slots in the SERP for those keywords. Via targeted link building on listicles, round ups, comparisons, and directories that surface often as sources in LLMs, we show up more.

3. We have a strong presence on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is showing up more and more in AI search as source material. And also in some SERPs on Google, too. This increases our mention rate in AI search.

4. Publishing good content that picks up citations. Citations are not that valuable in AI search. What you really want is actually a mention. I.e, when someone asks ChatGPT “what is the best agency or tool for XYZ” — that is when you want to show up. Citations are fine, they just don’t really drive any tangible pipeline.

5. We consistently build links, brand mentions, and quote based links that we have directly seen as citations in LLMs when referencing our brand as a solution for people.

6. We publish content consistently, then update pages with higher traction, update stalled out pages, and update pages we notice that pick up more citations.

As I said, nothing revolutionary. There are rarely any hacks or silver bullets. It’s more about putting together a cohesive strategy + good execution than anything.

We all know that you need to build good links. We all know you need to write helpful content that’s genuinely awesome. But building good links is easier said than done. So is creating content worth linking to.

That’s the real secret sauce: being able to execute at a level that commands the distribution needed to drive high intent leads from all forms of search.
