The biggest mistake I’m seeing brands make with AI content right now

If you’re a real business, please stop taking shortcuts with SEO. You are not special. You are going to receive the same fate as 99.99% of people who do this:

A crashed site that never recovers to full potential, and a huge channel you can no longer drive revenue from.

Came across this post on X yesterday. Someone who used a popular AI content generation tool to pump out articles.

AI is great for making human content better. You can create custom graphs, images, charts, assets, tables, in seconds, to create a more valuable piece for the reader.

AI is garbage if you need a 4-10+ genuinely good content assets per month (this is 90% of businesses btw) and you expect to run it on autopilot. By doing this, you’re also openly saying you don’t care about your brand nor actually providing value, you just want to rank. …but rankings don’t mean anything if people click, read, see that it is junk, and leave with a negative opinion of your brand.

And the unit economics of replacing real human writers with actual subject matter expertise that isn’t publicly available online and thus not present in AI generated content, does not even make sense.

A really great content asset might cost you $900 to $5000+ depending on the scope of it. Produced a $1500 content asset for a client nearly 60 days ago, it’s ranking and drove $85k+ in directly attributed pipeline.

Getting unit costs to $0 means nothing if it drives no outcomes.

Most companies don’t need 50-100+ new assets per month. They need a handful of genuinely incredible articles and assets that actually shape the narrative of their industry, spark conversation, virality, and social discussion.

And I have yet to see a single business achieve that with AI generated content at scale. I have seen 100s do it with thought provoking, subject matter expert content.

Publishing articles for pennies to the dollar with AI tools is cheap now and expensive later when you crash organic and lose an entire customer acquisition channel because you prioritized short-term gratification.
